Over time, all materials wear out, including hardwood flooring. If your hardwood floors have become scuffed and worn, you may be thinking they need to be replaced altogether. Fortunately, in many cases, you can get your wood floors refinished instead. In this article, our team at Diamond Wood Floors & Development will provide an overview of how hardwood refinishing works so you know what to expect from the process.

- Cleaning – Before we can begin the hardwood refinishing process itself, we will need to clean your hardwood floors. Naturally, all furniture and other items will need to be removed from the room, but our team will also vacuum your hardwood floors to make sure no debris remains.
- Sanding – Once the floor is clean, our team will begin the main hardwood refinishing process. We will sand down your floors to remove the existing finish and expose the bare wood. The more damage there was to the original finish, the more material will need to come off the boards in order to create an even surface with no blemishes.
- Finishing – After the raw wood is exposed via sanding, our team will move on to the next step in hardwood refinishing, which involves applying the new finish. Our team will apply the stain of your choice to adjust the color of the wood, and we will follow that up with a sealant to lock in the color and protect the wood from moisture. Once the new finish sets, you can move your furniture back into the space.
